Alicia Owens looks for an open teammate in Mt. Hood's victory over Clark

In Mt. Hood’s game against Clark, the Saints only held a lead for less than one second. That is usually not a recipe for success, but it worked for the Saints in their NWACC opener.

In her first game in a Mt. Hood uniform, Courtney Bay banked in the game-winning jumper with 0.6 seconds left in overtime, leading the Saints to a 67-65 road win over Clark College on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Mt. Hood (6-7, 1-0 NWACC) was led by Chloe Cummins who had 20 points and five rebounds. Jessica Parker, who never left the court in this game, added 15 points of her own in the thrilling victory.

“The big thing is that the kids are battling really hard. We have been plagued with injuries, but the kids keep battling through,” Mt. Hood head coach John Hawley said. “It really helped that were able to get second chance points.”

This was Cummins first game back after missing nearly two months with a cracked rib. Despite the injury, Cummins found a way to have a huge impact on this game.

“We all have big hearts and we fight. No matter who counts us out, we give it our best,” Cummins said.

Nyah Curtis opened the game up for the Saints with two quick jumpers, which was followed a triple from Cummins and a floater by Parker later in the quarter. With only having a one-point advantage at the time, Clark responded by going on an 8-0 run and took an 18-9 lead into the second quarter.
