With a promise to focus on the county’s future, Tualatin resident Amy Nichols announced her candidacy for position 3 on the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners on Thursday, Oct. 26.

As county commissioner, Nichols wants to address crime rates and cost-of-living increases. To do so, she is advocating for increased funding for law enforcement, blocking road tolls and finding ways to lower property taxes. She faces incumbent Martha Schrader and Estacada native Joanna Harbour in the May 21, 2024 primary election.

She owns two bars in Portland, The Cheerful Tortoise and The Cheerful Bullpen, and draws on her 24 years of experience as a business owner to inform her positions.

Earlier this year, Nichols ran for a seat on the West Linn-Wilsonville School Board, emphasizing a “back to basics” approach to raise math and reading proficiency levels, parental involvement and increased transparency about the school curriculum. She lost to Dan Schumaker.
