Sandy’s Susan McGaughey leads Pioneers at 2023 cross country state championship

Sandy and Barlow runners showed well during the 2023 OSAA cross country championships, which were held Saturday, Nov. 4, at Lane Community College in Eugene.

At the 6A level, the top-finishing local girl was Sandy senior Susan McGaughey, who led a group of Pioneers by crossing 75th in 20:51. With her six teammates, who qualified thanks to Sandy’s showing in the Mt. Hood Conference district meet, the Pioneers placed 18th in the team competition.
Also running in the 6A girls race were Barlow freshman Clara Heston (106th), and Gresham junior Avery Morris (117th).
On the 6A boys side, the only local competitor was Barlow junior Camden Pate, who crossed 134th in 18:08.6.
