Identifying trees and shrubs was one of the workshops taught during a recent Tree School at Clackamas Community College.

Oregon State University Extension Service will offer its long-running Tree School Clackamas on Saturday, March 22, at Clackamas Community College.

Registration for Tree School will open on Feb. 4 at 10 a.m., and classes are expected to fill fast.

Tree School is Oregon’s largest and most comprehensive forestry and natural resource education event. The program was founded in Clackamas County as a unique single-day program designed to offer a wide range of educational opportunities related to woodland management.

As Tree School celebrates its 35th year, the event expects to host more than 750 woodland owners, forestry professionals, and tree enthusiasts as they come together to learn and share knowledge on improving forest management.

This year’s Tree School will feature 73 classes covering essential topics to support successful management of small woodlands. Individual classes will explore forest management techniques, wildfire, marketing, business strategies, forest health, wildlife habitat, invasive species control, forest fungi, and much more.

New offerings include classes such as: Fungal Ecology, How Habitat Piles Support Oregon’s Wildlife, Introduction to Bigleaf Maple Sugaring, and Incorporating Climate Adaptation During Reforestation.

“As we enter the 35th year of Tree School, the program remains a trusted resource for landowners seeking expert advice and practical knowledge on managing their woodlands,” said Glenn Ahrens, Oregon State University Extension forester at the Clackamas County Extension office. “We look forward to offering another year of classes addressing both foundational woodland management topics and emerging forestry challenges.”

Those interested can register online, in-person, or by mail. Many classes fill in the first few days of registration.
