Local grapplers Fahnbulleh, Anguiano, Ward, Howell, Gibson win gold at girls regionals

There is lots to celebrate, as 15 local girl grapplers shined on the mat and earned spots in the upcoming state championships.

The highlight were a quintet who earned gold medals at the OSAA Girls 6A/5A Special District 2 Tournament, held Friday-Saturday, Feb. 21-22, at Sandy High School.

Jeredith Fahnbulleh, Gresham sophomore; Genisis Anguiano, Centennial freshman; Taylor Ward, Barlow freshman; Olivia Howell, Barlow junior; and Addyson Gibson, Reynolds junior; all ascended the podium after winning their respective weights.

The Eagles had extra reason to celebrate, they won the team competition with 161.5 points. Barlow took second (148 points) and David Douglas placed third (147).

At the regional tournament the top-four finishers at each weight punched a ticket to the 2025 OSAA State Championships, held Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 27-March 1, at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. In total 15 local athletes from Barlow, Gresham, Reynolds, Centennial and Sandy qualified for state.
