Sandy track and field upperclassmen shine on Senior Night

Sandy track and field celebrated senior night Tuesday evening, May 6, in style — with an impressive showcase headlined by those talented upperclassmen.

The Pioneers welcomed David Douglas for a dual meet at Pop Rannow Stadium. Sandy handedly won the team competition. The boys took it with 89 points compared to David Douglas’ 48; and the girls won with 78 points to the visitors’ 65.
Here are how all the Sandy varsity seniors did:
Boys
Mataio Olomua: 10th in the 100 (11.81); 7th in the 200 (25.04)
Alex Peterson: 22nd in the 100 (12.62 PR); 1st in the 400 (57.87 PR); 6th in the long jump (17-4.5 feet PR)
Connor Swafford: 4th in the 800 (2:19.40); 4th in the 1500 (4:51.94); 2nd as part of the 4×400 relay (3:59.37)
Jake Larsen: 1st in the 3000 (9:55.14 PR); 2nd as part of the 4×400 relay (3:59.37)
Girls
Pilar Courter: 2nd in the 400 (1:06.00 PR); 4th in the 300 hurdles (54.89)
Lilley Wedell: 1st in the 800 (2:27.16); 1st as part of the 4×400 relay (4:18.38)
Ruth Ricketts: 4th in the 800 (3:02.05); 3rd in the 1500 (5:53.07); 3rd as part of the 4×400 relay (5:35.06)
Morgan Wright: 6th in the 800 (3:09.14); 8th in the 1500 (6:45.97); 3rd as part of the 4×400 relay (5:35.06)
Hannah Petrillo: 2nd in the discus (97-2 feet)
