Connect a homebound senior with a meal
For more than three decades, the Sandy Community/Senior Center has operated the local Meals on Wheels program, providing homebound seniors with meals as well as connections with members of their community.
Last year alone the Center served more than 130 local homebound seniors in Sandy, Boring and even Damascus.
In a collaborative effort to raise funds for this charitable program, the Center, in partnership with several local businesses, has been hosting a March for Meals fundraising campaign for the second year.
You still have one more opportunity to enjoy a meal or sweet treat at a Sandy business and have part of the proceeds from your sale benefit the Meals on Wheels program, on Friday, March 21: Mountain Moka, 17450 S.E. Meinig Ave.
More restaurants may be added to the schedule for March of Meals. For an up-to-date list, visit ci.sandy.or.us/parks-rec/page/march-meals-campaign or call the Center.
Learn about edible gardening at the library
With spring on the horizon, people are already preparing ideas for what they’ll plant in their gardens and planter boxes this year.
At Sandy Public Library, library volunteer, Leslie Mestman, will lead the Sandy Edible Gardening group, which will meet from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, March 24, to share the highs and lows of edible gardening among neighbors, as well as swap tips, timelines, strategies and resources.
All are welcome to join, regardless of if you’re a novice or seasoned green thumb.
“Together we’ll go from seed to maximizing the bounty of the harvest,” library staff said.
The group will meet in the Hoyt Community Room in the Sandy Public Library, 38980 Proctor Blvd.
For more information, contact seed librarian Brianna Chase at bchase@ci.sandy.or.us.

The event is sponsored by Timberline Meat, who will donate food for the dinner.
For the event, youth from the Sandy community will prepare and share a meal at the Sandy Community/Senior Center, 38348 Pioneer Blvd.
The Center will accept donations for March for Meals at the time of registration and throughout the month of March. To make a reservation for the dinner, call 503-668-5569.
